How many porta potties do you need for an event?
An event needs 1 standard porta potty for every 50 guests for up to 4 hours. Add 1 unit per 100 guests when the event runs longer than 4 hours, and 1 more per 100 guests when alcohol is served. A 150-guest, 5-hour party with a bar needs 3 + 2 + 2 = 7 units.
| Guests | Up to 4 hours | 5–8 hours | 5–8 hours with alcohol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 75 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 100 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 150 | 3 | 5 | 7 |
| 200 | 4 | 6 | 8 |
| 300 | 6 | 9 | 12 |
| 500 | 10 | 15 | 20 |
This is our planning method from delivering and servicing event units; it is a starting point, not a legal rule. Events open to the public must make at least 5% of units in each cluster wheelchair-accessible, and at least 1, under 2010 ADA Standards section 213.2. Try your own numbers in the event calculator.
When is a party porta potty delivered and picked up?
Party porta potties are delivered the day before or the morning of the event and picked up the next business day. A Saturday party unit usually arrives Friday and leaves Monday. The event price is flat for up to 3 days, so the early drop-off and Monday pickup cost nothing extra.
Delivery windows run 7 AM to 7 PM, and the driver texts 30 minutes ahead. For a same-day event, call by 11 AM and we deliver before the party starts. Sunday events get a Saturday drop-off.
What comes inside an event porta potty?
An event porta potty comes with a toilet seat, a urinal, two rolls of toilet paper, a hand sanitizer dispenser, a mirror, a coat hook and a roof vent. Event units are kept separate from construction units, so guests get a clean, unscratched unit that has never sat on a jobsite.
Add a hand washing station wherever food is served. For a wedding or a dressy event, a flushing unit with a sink or a restroom trailer is worth the step up.
Does an event in Sutter County need a permit for porta potties?
Private parties on private property in Sutter County usually need no restroom permit. Public events with food booths do: California Retail Food Code section 114315 requires toilet facilities within 200 feet of each temporary food facility, and Sutter County Environmental Health reviews the plan when it issues event food permits.
Street fairs, parades and park events also go through the city or county event permit, which may set unit counts. Ask the permit office before you finalize your order; we size the order to whatever they require. The Yuba City permit guide has the details.
Where should party porta potties be placed?
Party porta potties work best on level ground, 50 to 100 feet from the food and seating, upwind, and in a spot lit after dark. Keep them reachable within about 15 feet of where the truck can stop, or tell us about a side gate at least 48 inches wide for backyard placement.
